5 June from Our Viewpoint

We woke up bright and early in Brighton, Colorado and had breakfast with my brother’s family and my mom and dad before we all went our separate directions. Our family went back to the hotel, packed, dressed in church clothes and drove about an hour before we stopped at a ward that met at 11:00 somewhere east of Denver Metro. It was a great testimony meeting and one testimony in particular was worth the stop.
We then loaded up and hit the road. Our plan was to get from Denver to Kansas City on Sunday. It was a nice and fairly easy drive… all freeway. I think the kids were expecting tornadoes to be sitting and swirling on the Kansas border, just waiting for us! Sophia kept saying, “we’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto.” Except we were.

The following story is from the day:
On Saturday, Blair was flipping radio channels while we were getting ready for the drive in movie. I kept saying, “No, no, no,” At one point, we were on a channel with an Eminem song and Blair said, “What? No Eminem?”

Fast forward to Sunday. We hooked my iPod up to the car’s stereo system and I put some kids tunes on to get things calmed down. Sophia was not happy with any of our choices and kept yelling for the Eminem song. Blair tried to tell her that we didn’t have an Eminem song and she kept insisting that we did. This went on for hours. Blair tried to reason with her and I beat my head on the dash.

Finally, I took matters into my own hands and began to lie. I said, “ We don’t have Eminem anymore. It’s gone.” She said, “Someone took it?” I said, “yes.” She asked who took it. I considered blaming Heather but realized that we would soon see Heather and Sophia wouldn’t have forgotten quite yet. So, I told her that Grandma Dena took it. Who knows? She might be a fan.
